A series of grisly murders of really stuffy British people lead straight to Giles, who gets drunk and pissy in response. Buffy and the gang rush to his rescue anyway, and Jenny Calendar becomes possessed by Eyghon, an ancient demon that Giles and his friends used to summon when they were younger to get high. (Man, and my parents said sniffing glue was dangerous!)

Directed by: Bruce Seth Green
Original Air Date: November, 10 1997

Guest Stars:
Stuart McLean (Philip Henry)
Wendy Way (Dierdre)
Michael Earl Reid (Custodian – EDDIE!!!)
Trivia:

  • In the game at the beginning of this episode, “Anywhere But Here”, Buffy wishes for a foot massage from Gavin Rossdale, who is the lead singer of the band “Bush”. Plus, he’s married to Gwen Stefani, which makes me hate him a little, due to extreme jealousy. Amy Yip, with whom Xander wants to visit a waterpark, is a sexy Hong Kong actress who is famous for having very large breasts. And everyone knows who John Cusack is…
  • The photo of Giles holding the bass guitar that Xander finds in Giles’ office was created by the Buffy staff by photohoping his head onto a picture of Sid Vicious.

Quotes:

Xander: “That’s it! Twelve years of you and I’m snappin’! I don’t care if you’re a girl or not, I’m throwin’ down!”
Cordelia: “I’ve seen you fight. And don’t think I can’t take you!”

Xander: “Giles lived for school. He’s actually still bitter that there are only twelve grades.”
Buffy: “He probably sat in math class thinking, ‘There should be more math. This could be mathier.’”

Key Events:

  • We learn Giles has a tattoo!
  • We get a good look at Giles’ less-tweed-y past.

  • Amy Yip is a Hong Kong actress from the late 80’s, early 90’s who starred in such films as Sex and Zen and also Erotic Ghost Story.

Basically… exotic erotic big breasted woman.

    Hey guys –

Great episode…one of my favorites. (Again, with Ethan and Ripper…ya can’t go wrong!). Just wanted to chime in with something that has been bugging me since the first time I saw the ep….you guys hit on it a little toward the end of your podcast, but nobody mentioned this – Buffy’s tattoo removal – why the hell is she using her own money to have it removed? (I thought for sure Kathleen would come up with this…she seems to be the logical one in your group :-) You’d think Giles would feel so guilty that he’d pay for it, right? Or maybe she could file a workman’s comp with the Watcher’s Council or something…..or send them the receipt for reiumbursement…lol. Just had to throw that in…it’s been gnawing at me for years, now!

Thanks for keeping the podcasts coming regularly…I love listening to you guys!

    Trivial notices: Robia LaMorte, b. 7/7/70… Charisma Carpenter, b. 7/23/70… Alexis Denisof, b. 2/25/66
& Tony Head, b. 2/20/54. Rob the cradle AFTER turning it on its ‘Head’. Maybe not ‘Dark’,
    but ‘Age’.
-as usual, Nice ep. coverage y’all !

Again I love you guys but I specailly love your sound effects Jason when it comes to Vampires and there cars. Speaking of vamp cars Spike to my knowledge didn’t have a convertable he had a Desoto. Which I want. Also I want Willows clothes, I know they’re kinda bad but I still want to dress like Will. I was wondering if you guys knew, but since this epi had Ethan in it I thought I’d ask now but did Ethan die in the Buffy comic? Oh and I have to agree with Jason on the whole was or wasn’t Jenny’s backstory thought up, up to this epi. I have to say no just for the simple fact I heard they where going to kill off Oz instead of Jenny but then thought better of it for the simple fact Oz wasn’t in Willows life long enough yet. So yah those are my notes. Again i love you guys you guys may not be original in the “Lets make a podcast about our review of Buffy epi’s” but I love your 2 guy and a girl, podcast need that balance. You guys so far get 5 Mr.Pointys from me. Oh and your rating system rocks.
ps: I was just curious how do you 3 plan to do 2 part epi’s do the to part together in one podcast or do them seperate. Like wil the next podcast have just part 1 or the whole epi of What’s My Line. Just curious.

  • Great episode guys, both yours and this one. I love the Ethan episodes and watching Giles and Jenny together is always worth the time.

On a side note, I am getting SQL errors when I try to read anything in the forums. “Unknown column ’s.session_forum_id’ in ‘where clause’ “

Hello all at the Watchercast. Thanks a lot for another entertaining podcast. If you don’t mind, I’d like to share something with you that occurred to me while I was very, very bored at work this morning.

There are roughly one hundred and twenty episodes of Buffy The Vampire Slayer left for discussion by your good selves, and, at the current rate of one episode per month, you should be reaching Chosen somewhere during mid-2018, by which time the internet tubes will probably have been replaced by some kind of laser doodad that shoots movie rumours, films of dogs on skateboards and pornography directly into our eyes.

Now, I don’t mean to put any undue pressure on you nice folks, but by that time you are likely to be facing stiff competition from laser-eye-beam-casts dealing with such diverse TV shows as Buffy: The Next Generation, season sixteen of 24 (which will see Jack Bauer slaughtering babies with a polo mallet to save the world from terrorists who are working for politicians who are controlled by the re-animated corpse of Pauly Shore) and The Young Jar Jar Chronicles.

Who wants to compete with that?

So, to save you from this worryingly complex future, may I politely request that you, you know, speed things up a bit?

    Thanks again.

    Yours respectfully,

    Franklin T Marmoset from England.

  • Enjoying your webcast immensely here in England. It is proving so popular in my office that we listen to it during our lunches. We all sit in the office and listen to your podcast which is starting to spring off to our clients who have started downloading through various means. Keep it coming as we are nearly up to date with you especially as we are late comers and only ran across you a month ago. We are well and trully hooked.

A bit of trivia for you though not quite sure where you want to take it but it should give you a chuckle.

When working with RISE, a morning television show to get workers to work whilst eating their breakfast on Channel 4, we had the cast of Buffy and Angel which included Julia Benz, Juliet Landau and James Marsters. After their interview and sitting in the green room conversing, it emerged that Juliet Landau was the ex-girlfriend of Jodie Foster and then memories began to transgress from there. I wouldn’t air this but thought you would like a bit of background trivia.

Looking forward to your next cast.

  • Brent E. Engle:

I just had 1 other comment. Wouldn’t Xander be safer at the water park with those 2 giant, flotation devices?
