I enjoyed your podcast once again. I love it when you guys do long ones. And I didn’t say it before but congrats on the new baby!
You do give us a lot to think about and I love it.
I noticed when watching the shows again how young Faith looked but then I felt like she was supposed to be younger than Buffy, what with the references to school and I think the mayor buys her a play station and she got a trampoline or something later. Buffy called her like her younger sis or something I think. I kind of got that feeling like she had been through a lot in life, she talks about her dead mom and dropping out of school and such and she probably didn’t have a guardian outside her watcher because she has all this crazy drinking and sleeping around behavior. I mean we know she’s at least 18 by season 4 because she gets arrested and she was called at the end of season 2, so she could be as young as 16. In the final season all the girls seemed really young and they were already talking about thinking they were too old to get called.
As for the watcher thing, I remember Kendra talking about being raised by her watcher and the girls in the final season talking about their watchers and stuff. I was wondering if maybe a lot of the potentials had their own watchers and maybe rebellious Giles was a second string kind of watcher for Buffy after her first watcher was unexpectedly killed. And since Wes was such a by the book kind of guy he was sent in after Giles got in trouble for getting too emotionally involved. Just my take on that.
Laurel Holloman who played Justine on Angel was on Castle, Nathan Fillion’s new show.

Hi all,
I love listening to your podcasts.
As far as Watcher Council education and Giles’s personal history, I read parts of it in the Buffy Omnibus. I didn’t get very far, but the Omnibus follows Buffy from the moment she becomes the slayer in L.A., and it shows Giles “proving” his worth before the Council.

Love the podcast. Seeing if I was the only on who had a error on the download from iTunes. At the half way mark it starts from the beginning again.
Looking forward to re-downloading and listening at work tomorrow!!

Correction: Harry Potter (the book that is) WAS out by the time this episode aired. According to Wikipedia The Philosopher’s Stone was released 30 June 1997 in the UK and 1 September 1998 in the US. Faith, Hope & Trick aired 13 October 1998.
Not that I think the floating feathers thing was necessarily a reference to HP, but as I fan I just had to correct you.

Another great podcast!
You guys talked a lot about Cordelia’s sarcastic line to Xander about dressing up like a slayer and pointing a stake at him – yet you didn’t mention the reference that was the first thing I thought of.
It’s during one of the later seasons (4?) where Harmony is living with Spike. That’s pretty much exactly what they’re doing. She’s dressed up like Buffy and has a stake and they’re chasing each other around Spike’s crypt before falling into bed together. I guess Xander’s not the only one with that particular fantasy!

I am so happy you were able to post this episode before I left on vacation, it was the perfect distraction for the hour and a half that I could listen to my ipod on the plane.
Even though I’ve watched Faith, Hope, and Trick multiple times throughout the years I never made the connection that ‘Hope’ was for Scott Hope. I knew his last name but for some reason it never clicked with the title. I always saw the ‘Hope’ part as Buffy and Faith finding hope at the end of the episode since Buffy spoke about Angel and Faith killed Kakistos.
Excellent podcast. I can hardly wait for the next one. Beauty and the Beasts is one of my favorite epsiodes in Season 3 so I look forward to listening to what you three think.
