Anne
Unable to deal with the pain caused by being forced to kill Angel, Buffy heads to L.A. to try and leave it all behind…Sunnydale, her friends, even her name. There, she goes by “Anne” and works in a diner, waiting tables. But trouble has a way of finding Buffy, and this time trouble comes in the form of Lily (who was known as Chanterelle in “Lie To Me” last season). Lily has lost her boyfriend, Rickie, and has enlisted the help of Buffy to find him. Meanwhile, the scoobies in Sunnydale learn that it ain’t easy to slay vampires without a slayer. Let’s just hope Buffy can escape that creepy forced labor hell demension to get back to Sunnydale and give them all a hand once more.
Directed by: Joss Whedon
Original Air Date: 29 September 1998
Guest Stars:
Julia Lee (Lily)
Trivia:
- We learn in this episode that “Anne” is Buffy’s middle name. The Buffy Trivia Guide mentions that there is a chain of lingerie stores in England named Ann Summers, which I thought was funny enough to mention. =)
- According to IMDB, this is the first episode where they do the “Previously, on Buffy the Vampire Slayer” thing at the beginning. Really? How did I miss that?
Quotes:
Larry: “If we can focus, keep discipline, and not have quite as many mysterious deaths, Sunnydale is gonna *rule!*”
Key Events:
- Buffy returns to Sunnydale, after having been away for several months.

In Other News:
Jason is the proud papa of Seth, surely a future Watcher.
And you can find out what Longaberger is here.
Buffy vs Edward
So, as Jason said here, the Watchercast is having what we hope is a brief hiatus. So, while you’re waiting, I figured I would throw up what I found to be a reeeeally satisfying YouTube clip that was talked about on one of the podcasts I listen to each week.
Buffy would be a MUCH better foil for Edward than Bella. Yay kick ass women!
Buffy The Vampire Slayer – The Sequel! (but wait…)
The first time I saw it was as a headline. “Buffy the Vampire Slayer Remake”.
The first thing that runs through my head is, “Oh my God, they’re going to let him do season 8 on TV!!!” Yeah. No such luck (and honestly, how COULD they? That comic is fairly epic in scope, and would be a bitch to translate to the TV…) OK, but still, another Buffy movie!? Hope SMG has stayed in fighting shape! And then I continue to read…
Now, I’m not going to dismiss the movie yet, just because they aren’t going to do exactly what I want them to do. That would be silly. However, isn’t it also silly to make a Buffy movie without Joss Whedon?! C’MON, people?! He’s Joss! She’s Buffy! They go together like peanut butter and jelly!!! How can you do one without the other?
Apparently, Fran Rubel Kuzui and her husband, Kaz Kuzui, the directors of the first Buffy movie, are planning on making number two. However, they “have yet to reach out to Joss”. OK, well what are you waiting for?! Don’t they realize that the only reason anyone watches their movie at all is because they became rabid fans due to the Buffy TV series?!
On top of no Joss, neither will we have Xander, Willow, Giles and it sounds like we may not even have a Buffy…from what I’ve been able to put together so far, the producers want to continue in the “every generation has their own slayer” theme and move onto an entirely different cast. I suppose that would actually be for the best, considering the amount of baggage that people have for Buffy herself, but the last thing we need is another lame “Twilight” wannabe.
Joss’ response is, of course, classy and awesome. “I hope it’s cool.” he is quoted as saying.
Me too, Joss. (But, I kinda doubt it will be…)
What’s My Line, parts 1 & 2
It’s a two-fer this time on the Watchercast, as we discuss the two-part horror that is Kendra, the Vampire Slayer. She arrives in town at the same time as the Order of Taraka, sometimes human (sometimes bug) assassins that have been hired by Spike to keep the Slayer busy as he tries to find a cure for his creepy girlfriend, Drusilla. And, as with most things that take place on the Hellmouth, this cure requires a sacrifice…in this case, the sire of Drusilla, Angel. And Xander and Cordillia kiss. A lot.
Directed by: David Solomon (part 1) & David Semel ( part 2)
Original Air Date: November 17, 1997 (part 1) & November 24, 1997 (part 2)
Guest Stars:
Bianca Lawson (Kendra)
Kelly Connell (Bug-sassin)
Saverio Guerra (Willy)
Spice Williams (Policewoman Assassin)
Trivia:
- We get several visits to “Willy’s Tavern” in these episodes, a shady bar that caters to the shadow-y supernatural type.
- We get the second slayer showing up in this episode because, even it was for a short time, Buffy did die in the final episode of Season 1.
Quotes:
Angel: “You’re in danger, do you know what this ring means?”
Buffy: “I just killed a Superbowl Champ?”
Buffy: “You and bug people, Xander…what’s up with that?”
Key Events:
- Xander and Cordilia kiss!
